When I was a kid, Radio Shack was one of my favorite stores. You see, I was kind of a geeky little guy. I loved to do electronic projects of all kinds, and was constantly tinkering with this and that. Although I would order a lot of the more obscure or expensive electronic components from a supply catalog, I would often find myself down at Radio Shack at the last minute to pick up some supplies. It was a great place to go to stock up on soldering tools, resisters, transistors, and all of the other basic electronic components.

Nowadays, I mostly go to Radioshack when I need to replace some electronic appliance. They do not sell a lot of big ticket items there today, but they do have a lot of handy stuff in the middle price range. I bought my last car radio and speakers there, souping up my junker with brand new, high quality audio gear. I also sometimes buy peripherals for my computer there. For example, I bought my last new keyboard and mouse at the store not too long ago.

One of my friends actually works in the Radio Shack store. He has been working there since September of last year. He did not really like it at first. You see, he had only wanted to do it as a short term job. He had never worked in retail before and figured that he would not like it very much. Nonetheless, he has really taken to the gig. He has been there for a while now and received a few pay raises. He is even training to be a manager.

The best thing about his Radio Shack job in my humble opinion is, of course, that he hooks me up. He gets me deals using his employee discount whenever I need something. He also tells me when they are having sales on something that I might like to buy. I am a sucker for new high tech toys, and he really delivers the goods. It is also nice to know people in a store you go to a lot. It is good to see a friendly face and not just another shop keeper. I used to like going to the local Best Buy, but I don’t really know anyone there. For me, it is easier to get advice that you trust from a person who you already know.
