Getting your cat to use a litter box shouldn?t be too difficult. If you have a cat that is used to being outdoors or has some other issues, be sure to consult with a veterinarian about what steps you should be taking to teach your cat to effectively use a litter box. If you get a kitten, you should never have any problems with litter box training. Cats have a natural instinct to dig and relieve themselves in an area that they can cover up. That?s exactly what we provide for them in a litter box.

When getting a cat, deciding on some key litter box issues can be crucial for the cat?s happiness and to suit your lifestyle. One thing that should be decided on is the location of the litter box. You obviously don?t want sting in the middle of your living room but you certainly don?t want to be in a tiny crawlspace that your cat doesn?t want to even attempt to locate. It should be someplace out of the way in order to give your cat some privacy but not too far out of the way. Perhaps a storage room or closet left open ajar would be ideal. While most people tend to put a litter box in their basements, is a good idea to have the litter box on the same floor that the cat spends most of s time. Running from the third floor all the way down to the basement can be discouraging for cats and accidents may happen along the way. Or, if the basement isn?t appealing to the cat, they might let you know by choosing to relieve themselves in other areas of the house.

You will also have to decide on what kind of litter box and how many. It is recommended that you have one litter box for eat cat. So, two cats would require two litter boxes. I have two cats and only one litter box. I?ve never experienced a problem but my cats grew up together so perhaps that?s why they don?t seem to mind sharing. Other cats may refuse to use the litter box once another cat has been in . If that?s the case, get multiple boxes. You may want to keep them separated from each other in order to keep them from being in the same room and still feel like they?re sharing. Will you get a covered litter box or a standard box? Covered litter boxes are nice because they don?t allow for such a mess and they do keep some odors inside. However, they still need to be changed on a daily basis.

The main purpose to remember when making some litter box decisions is happiness and convenience. Both you and your cat need to be happy and feel that the litter box is convenient. By using some common sense and some experimenting, you will come up with an ideal solution.
