Awesome Murder Mystery Parties
I am a huge fan of detective stories and murder mysteries. I have been reading them since I was about 15 years old, and have gotten pretty good at solving them. Sometimes I pick up on the most inconspicuous clues and come up with the answer long before it is unveiled in the stories. Although sometimes I'm still stumped, in general I think that I would make a good sleuth.
That is why I was so thrilled when I heard about murder mystery parties. I have always sort of thought that detective work might be a good career for me, but I have other interests that take priority. I am an avid writer and enjoy some success as a musician. Going through detective school is just something I don't have the time for. A murder mystery party, however, allows me to live the fantasy of life as an investigator without actually having to commit the time or take the risks that it involves. Good fantasy, after all, is what themed birthday parties are all about.
The first double murder mystery party I ever went to was actually held at a dinner club in New York City. It was a place that catered to a mixture of tourists and locals, indicating them with a variety of different dinner theater. Although murder mystery parties were far from their only event, they were by far the most popular. They would have a murder mystery party twice a week, and it was almost always sold out months in advance. To get tickets, you had to have connections or make your plans well ahead of time.
After going to a few murder mystery parties there, I thought I had a handle on it. They had some professionally trained actors and a really excellent script, but it didn't seem out of my league. I recruited some friends, and made the decision to have a murder mystery birthday party myself. Rather than being entertained, I surprised my friends by staging a murder mystery. When it first started, the guests were absolutely startled. They quickly figured out that it was just a form of entertainment, but for those few seconds of shock and surprise, they were really convinced. This is what gives murder mystery parties the special thrill. The make believe murder happens so suddenly they get caught up into it before they realize that it is just an act. By that point, people are hooked.

Murder mystery parties are a great unique get-together idea. Surprise is always useful in order to bring your guests truly into the story and adventure. Make sure you have everything planned out very well. Some people may react not like expected, and you need to anticipate ahead.
